The UIT started organizing the Summer School in Thermal Fluid Dynamics in 1997 on a two-years basis. Due to the great demand, the School is scheduled on a year-basis from 2005. The School is mainly addressed to PhD and post-doc students, though basically no restriction in application is enforced, and is typically scheduled from Sunday to Saturday in the first week of September.
Lectures are given by Italian experts in the field of the School theme in order to offer the best updating in the state-of-the-art and applications of the different thermal fluid dynamics branches. Fundamentals, applications and examples are the tools for the advancement in science preparation of young scientists. Most important Italian Universities acknowledge six credits for participation in the UIT Summer School.
Up to forty students (or few more) can be admitted at the UIT Summer School, which is regularly held at the Certosa di Pontignano, Siena. Students and lecturers lodge at the Certosa, which offers a very comfortable stay (in full pension) in a quite environment suitable for such an intensive School.
The Certosa di Pontignano is a Carthusian abbey built in 1343, which in 1959 was purchased by the University of Siena, who then turned it into a university residence. It is equipped with modern audiovisual for Conferences and courses, providing also lodging for participants in a friendly atmosphere.
